Jimmy-brain

I feel disconnected lately, but not unhappily so.

I (we) have not stopped seriously thinking about relocating to Arizona, and we're planning another trip in the drop-dead of summer to take in the worst of it. If we're lucky, maybe we'll catch the edge of monsoon season, too. I'll start my layoff July 1, and we're thinking about heading out right away.

The plan is a road trip through the state. We know we like Sedona/Verde Valley, but there are a lot of other places that look great on paper. If you know things about these places, speak up! We're looking at Golden Valley, Seligman (outskirts), Kingman (outskirts), Paulden, Prescott area, Chino Valley. Also weird outlier: Crown King.

What we would do for work there: I don't know! Details, details, Devil, details. Research is scarce out there, except in cities (Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson), and we're not wild about any of those places. I suspect Flagstaff is neat, but it's freaking snowy there. Like Ithaca on 'roids. Med lab technicians aren't licensed in AZ (CLAs and MLTs are), so that's a possibility for me. Annie has done everything, and well, so I know she'd find something. We'd both love to be able to eke out a paltry living from home, but the cheap whore gig has lost its luster. Let's face it, I'm tired.

Ideally, we would rent out there for a while, until we knew what we wanted from a property, but we have, you know, eight cats, and unless we dress them as homely children that's not an option.

Separate-but-related: Oh my god, ennui. I never thought I'd be tired of this area. Thirty years, and it just got better. Except this last year, when the magic started to rub thin. I have always seen Ithaca through Magic Hannukah Glasses, except not as Jewish. Through Magic Jesus Glasses, but not as Christian. Just a city full of emerald Magic Glasses. It's a good city, just a very bad wizard.

Just read I'm Perfect, You're Doomed, and it gave me a little post-trauma flashback. Now I'm reading Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex to cheer myself up.

Annie's having a marathon migraine, so I stayed home with her to make it worse. Really, I was afraid she would need a medical intervention, and I didn't want to have to limp my way home to help.

Some friends invited us out to dinner earlier this week, keeping me from abject hermitude. There was a conversation about home inspector porn. What are you wearing? A thick pink layer of R-26 insulation. Talk dirty to me: Mold ... dry rot ... wet basement!
